Most people today agree, exercise and diet are so important in determining not only your degree of fitness, but more important, your quality of life. That quality comes from feeling good, being energized, not having aches and pains all the time, the ability to play with your kids, or grandkids, or take your dog for a brisk walk. Problem is “regular” exercise is just no fun.
Who says you have to go to the gym, or do push ups and stuff like that. Get out on a trail and start walking and smelling the fresh air, the flowers, watching the wildlife and burn those calories. Hiking is really just walking. Its good though, to have a supply of water to drink and keep you hydrated, a first aid kit, good shoes or boots, and some snacks. This is all you need for a short hike. Longer hikes, overnight hiking and backpacking are really fun, but do require additional gear and food and supplies in general.
This is a great family activity–one in which you can really do something together and see some of the beauty of your own state and the country. Regardless of being in the Tetons or in the Ozarks or just hiking and climbing around a local city park you will have fun and stay fit! You will create lasting memories for all in the family–or if you are solo you will have those memories for yourself. Take pictures, sketch wildlife, take notes–enjoy the great outdoors and most important stay healthy and fit.
