The Benefits of the Lote Tree Leaves

The lote tree leaves are an important source of nutrition, offering numerous health benefits. They are rich in vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that can fight free radicals. Ziziphus spina-christi, more commonly referred to as the Lote tree, Christ’s Thorn or Jujube tree ( ), has been cultivated in South Asia and the Middle East for centuries. According to a number of Islamic ahaadeeth, the Prophet was told that the leaves of the lote tree are full of healing powers and have the ability to cure a wide range of diseases. The Prophet was also mentioned to have used this tree’s flowers and fruits as natural medicines.

The Quranic verses on the Lote tree refer to it as “Sidra al-Muntaha” or “the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary.” This is a symbolic reference to an area of Heaven which none of creation may enter, but which is accessible to God and his angels.
